Veritas proved today that its acquisition spree is not done yet, snatching up Invio Software for $35m in cash. Invio's software is already part of Vertias' CommandCentral Service product, which lets administrators monitor hardware usage and related costs. The Invio kit adds extra tools to the Vertias product by letting users set management policies such as making sure an important database always has high-performing storage available. In this context, Veritas' purchase of Invio is another step toward the company's goal of building a broad set of server and storage management products.

Veritas has made a number of recent acquisitions, including the buys of Ejasent, Jareva and Precise. All of these purchases were also aimed at hardware management, specifically application provisioning and billing.

Invio counts all the right companies as its partners - EMC, Brocade, IBM, HP, Microsoft and Sun Microsystems. The company was founded by a pair of ex-Legato staffers.

The Invio buy gives Veritas a momentary respite from a self-imposed storm. Earlier this month (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/07/06/veritas_q2_slam/), investors rocked Veritas shares after the company announced that second quarter revenue would come in below expectations. A number of other software makers followed suit, saying they see weakness in the enterprise market. ®
