International roving rock pundit (http://www.therockalltimes.co.uk/2002/07/22/bono-world-map.html) and all-round good guy Bono has stuck one of his many, many fingers into the Silicon Valley pie (http://www.detnews.com/2004/technology/0406/16/technology-184453.htm).

The busy Irishman has apparently taken time off from chinwagging with the Pope and lecturing hapless world leaders on how to run their countries to join Elevation Partners, a venture capital outfit intending to splash out on entertainment and media projects.

Also on board are technology investor Roger McNamee, John Riccitiello, ex-prez of Electronic Arts, and former Apple Computers finance chief Fred Anderson. The team reportedly aims to raise $1bn, but remains tight-lipped on details.

Bono is, of course, most famous for his work with Debt AIDS Trade Africa (http://www.datadata.org/flash.php), although he also sings with an up-and-coming pub band (http://www.u2.com/) in his spare time. ®
