London's Olympia will this year play host to the LinuxUser & Developer Expo 2004 (www.linuxuserexpo.com) - the UK's definitive Linux forum taking place on 20 and 21 April. The Expo is, of course, organised by LinuxUser & Developer magazine (http://www.livepublishing.co.uk/linux/index.shtml).
Highlight of the event will be a gala awards bash - The LinuxUser & Developer Awards (http://www.linuxuser.co.uk/expo/index.php?option=content&task=section&id=8&Itemid=54) (20 April) - to recognise the Linux industry's very best in product and service solutions - as well as corporate and personal contributions to the cause. The awards are this year supported by OpenForum Europe (http://www.openforumeurope.org/).
An elite panel of eight judges will preside over the proceedings, and select winners in 12 categories:
- Best Open Source Project
- Best Server Application
- Best Linux Developer Tool
- Best Data Storage Solution
- Best Desktop Application
- Best Business Solution Provider
- Best ISP/Internet Host
- Best Embedded Linux
- Best User of CGI with Linux
- Best Desktop Environment
- Best Linux System Builder
- Best Linux Marketing Campaign
- Best Linux Distribution
- Best Linux Hardware
- Best Linux Software
- Corporate Contribution to Linux
- Individual Contribution to Linux
If you'd like to put forward a worthy candidate for any of the above, you can do so here (http://www.linuxuser.co.uk/expo/index.php?option=com_philaform&Itemid=1&form_id=6). The deadline for submissions is Friday 26 March.
And finally, the open source gurus charged with this unenviable task of choosing the laureates are:
- Keir Thomas - Editor, LinuxUser & Developer
- Richard Hillesley - Consultant Editor, LinuxUser & Developer
- Graham Taylor - Director, OpenForum Europe
- Mike Banahan - CTO, OpenForum Europe
- Jono Bacon, Author and Linux expert
- Alastair Kergon - UKUUG (UK Unix User Group)
- Peter Hayes - Manager, UK, OSDL
- Daniel James - Linux journalist
- Frank Pohlman - Linux journalist
