Tiscali mulls sale of some country ops

Norway, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland named

Tiscali is mulling the idea of selling its operations in a number of countries.

Publishing its results yesterday, the Italian-based ISP which grew by gobbling up other ISPs said it planned to focus on a number of core countries.

Said the company in a statement: "According to Tiscali’s strategic plan, the Group will focus its financial and managerial resources in five key areas, which account for 80 per cent of revenues and 90 per cent of the broadband user base. These are the UK, France, Italy, Benelux and Germany.

"The Group will consider various strategic options for the other countries in which it operates, including possible divestitures from non-core areas to free resources to invest in the key countries."

This means that Tiscali plans to flog four out of 14 country operations, the International Herald Tribune reports.

Norway, South Africa, Sweden and Switzerland are named as countries that Tiscali might consider selling, raising anywhere between €50m and €100m.

A spokeswoman for Tiscali told The Register that Tiscali was considering to exit some "non-strategic countries" in the future in order to "free some resources" for the rest of the company. ®
