BT has rolled out a package that it says will enable UK firms to get an office network up and running in less than 60 minutes.

The telco's "Office in an Hour" bundle uses 802.11b wireless kit to link up to 10 PCs together in a peer to peer local area network that allows firms to share files and peripherals, such as printers and broadband Internet access, between PCs.

The telco reckons that some 150,000 businesses could dramatically improve efficiency and transform their working practices by networking the PCs they already own.

Mick Hegarty, ICT general manager, BT Business, said that many firms have been put off building office networks because they are afraid the technology required will be too expensive, time-consuming and difficult.

The complete package, including access point and wireless connections for four laptop or desktop PCs costs £399.99 (ex. VAT) comes with an installation guide and free help desk technical support. ®
