Wanadoo in France, Spain, Netherlands and the UK (Freeserve) has teamed up with Web.de (Germany) and Libero (Italy) to give advertisers access to some 30 million users and a billion page views a month.

The new advertising network has already signed up Intercontinental Hotels and some tourist groups on the back of this deal.

Said the companies in a statement: "The network answers customer demand for a powerful pan-European resource and reflects the increase in online advertising spend across Europe."

Indeed, the increase in online ad spending appears to have been something of a success for Freeserve. The UK's leading French ISP reports that it has "destroyed" its ad sales targets for 2003 helping take the company to profitability ahead of schedule.

Online ad sales are continuing to grow, according to a a study this month The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and PricewaterhouseCoopers, which found that online ad sales in the US for the first six months of 2003 were $3.29 billion - a 10.5 per cent increase over the same period last year. ®
