Taiwanese gather sales in May

SiS overtakes VIA

Taiwanese companies issue regular monthly sales reports, and the latest figures, for May, from the leading chipset and chip makers are now in.

VIA sold $32.1 million worth of kit during May, down 34.96 per cent on May 2002's figure of $49.4 million. SiS sold $33 million, putting it just ahead of its rival. It also saw sales increase, by ten per cent, over May 2002.

That said, SiS' May sales were down 25 per cent on April 2003. VIA was similarly down on April, by 35.4 per cent from $49.7 million.

Chip foundry TSMC's May 2003 sales totalled $482.5 million, up 10.6 per cent from May 2002's figure, $436.3 million and up 10.1 per cent from April's $438.1 million sales.

TSMC's arch-rival, UMC, racked up sales of $211.1 million during May, up 10.96 per cent on the year-ago month ($190.3 million). Sequentially, sales rose just 0.5 per cent, from April's sales of $210.1 million. ®
