The world's biggest Luddite strikes again!

Australian folk hero Senator Richard Alston's ministry, The Department of Communications, IT and the Arts (DCITA), spent AUS$4 million on its web site, a mere $3.4 million over budget.

You wanna see what AUS$4m gets you? Take a gander (http://www.dcita.gov.au/). It's very nice, worth every penny, no? Well done Fujitsu Australia for this compelling design, and a big pat on the back for the consultant who recommended the installation of Vignette.

Some whingeing Aussies disagree: Macromedia says one of its dealers built a similarly functional website for a comparable New Zealand government site for NZ$120,000. Which as anyone familiar with the NZ currency knows, is not a lot of money at all. ®
