Dealer uproar prompts Sage rethink over price rises

Line 50 Dancing

Sage is having a rethink over price rises for its Sage Line 50 and Sage Line 100 accountancy software products, following a revolt of small dealers.

The company had originally intended to implement a 30 per cent increase in list prices for Sage Line 50 products on March 1. The new price list would also have seen Sage 100 prices outstrip those of more upmarket Sage Line 200, sources say.

The proposed price rises prompted furious complaints on unofficially Sage user newsgroups, especially from small resellers who said the new Sage Line 50 price would have made the product seriously uncompetitive.

Sage is expected to return to the fray with a revised price list within the next few days. ®'
