Dell Computer Corp has signed a new agreement with Linux distributor Red Hat Inc through which the two companies will jointly deliver professional services designed help enterprise Unix users migrate to the Linux operating system.

The agreement extends existing partnership agreements between Austin, Texas-based Dell and Raleigh, North Carolina-based Red Hat, and sees Dell Professional Services working with Red Hat to offer migration planning and management services.

Specifically, the two companies will offer assessment, planning and proof of concept, application porting and implementation services. All services will include a total cost of ownership to detail potential cost savings, according to the companies. Dell Professional Services already offers services for the design, configuration and implementation of Red Hat Linux Advanced Server on Dell's PowerEdge server as well as PowerVault and EMC Corp storage systems.

The two companies also teamed up recently with Oracle Corp to provide support and services for Red Hat Linux Advanced Server and Oracle's 9i release 2 database management system running on Dell hardware.
