AMD today launched a multiprocessor version of the Athlon 2100+. It costs $262 when you buy 1,000 units and 34 OEMs are coming to market with servers based on the chip.
The CPU is socket A compatible and is supported by the AMD 760MPX chipset, which is incorporated into plenty of mobos.
With the MP Athlon flavours, AMD is targeting the low-end server space, currently dominated by Intel's low-end dualie Xeons. ®
