Embedded Linux vendor Lineo, which is now operating as a division of Embedix Inc, has sold its RTXC and RTXC Quadros real-time operating system product lines to Quadros Systems Inc, a new company set up by former Lineo employees.

Still operating under the Lineo name, the Lindon, Utah-based company quietly became Embedix last month after its assets were acquired by creditors The Canopy Group and Egan Management Capital, wiping out its debts.

The company has been trying to focus its attentions on its core embedded systems business after a number of job cuts in an attempt to reach profitability. The company is now focused on its Embedix embedded Linux operating system.

The RTXC products have been sold to Houston, Texas-based Quadros Systems, a company set up by Tom Barrett, the original developer of the technology and co-founder of Embedded Power Corp, which Lineo acquired in January 2001.

Financial details of the deal have not been revealed, although Quadros has announced that it has received venture capital funding that will enable it to continue to support and develop the RTXC and RTXC Quadros operating systems.

RTXC is a real-time operating system for digital signal processors and 8-, 16- and 32-bit microprocessors. The latest version, RTXC Quadros, was released in May and has four operating system configuration frameworks including single stack, multi-stack, dual-mode and microprocessor kernels. Users can select the optimal configuration for specific applications through a host-based system configuration utility.
