Systemax UK reins in Misco ops

Restructuring continues

Systemax UK is closing the Wellingborough, Northants warehouse of its Misco reseller sub, transferring all logistics, except for Systemax-branded PCs, to its main warehouse Globaldirect Greenock, Scotland. Too small for its needs, it says.

At the same time, the company is transferring the Uxbridge sales operations of Globaldirect, to Wellingborough. It will continue to operate as a standalone team. Uxbridge now closes down. The Greenock Globaldirect team is unaffected by the consolidation.

And Systemax web design and marketing teams based in Walthamstow, home for its Simply Computers sub, will be relocated to Wellingborough too. This will take place in August and September this year.

In an email memo to Globaldirect UK staff, Les Biggs, VP of opps, said that staff affected by the moves will be offered alternative employment or relocation - "where possible". Others would get redundancy. The numbers affected are not known.

"It is realised that the recent changes within our operations are unsettling but please be assured they have been made only after detailed consideration in order to ensure that we become more efficient as an organisation and that we retain our position as the UK's premier IT direct mail reseller," Biggs wrote.

Earlier this month, Systemax closed down the Walthamstow warehouse of Simply Computers, with the loss of approx. 40 jobs. Kevin McSpadden, Simply's Head of UK Marketing, also resigned.

In March, the company outsourced Simply's Systemax-brand PC assembly business to UKCC, in Bishops Stortford. Simply's telesales team remains in Walthamstow, so far as we can tell.

Systemax was not immediately available for comment. ®
