Lies, damned lies and games console sales figures

Your reports from the front

Published Friday 7th December 2001 16:44 GMT

I really don't want to come off sounding like some enraged fanboy, but all I can say is that while searching desperately for a copy of Pikmin Monday here in Dearborn (that's Detroit, MI) at every store I went too, and I went to a LOT there were no GameCubes anywhere, but at least one Xbox in each store.

Nintendo having supply problems? Doubt it…

Dude,

You do realize that you are forced to buy package deals for the Xbox right? Whereas my PS2, which I got on day one, did not have any requirements, and in fact, I didn't buy any games until Zone of Enders came out a couple of months later. I needed a DVD player too.

So, the numbers are skewed.

Tai

Does this take into account that many stores, such as KB Toy stores are REQUIRING the purchase of Xbox games to buy the console? The KB I was at is requiring the purchase of three games, and another store in the mall I was at was requiring two.

GameCube had no such restriction that I've heard of
