DCC disties hold their own

UK up, Ireland down

SerCom Distribution, the IT wholesaling arm of Irish conglomerate DCC, today reported H1 sales up 11 per cent to E363.7m (H1 2000: E327.9m) and operating profit up 13 per cent to E13.2m (2000: E11.6m)for the period ended September 30.

There are no individual breakdowns for the four operating businesses in SerCom; two UK disties, one commodity and one retail-focused; one in Ireland; and a storage wholesaler in France. Instead there is

UK distie Micro P grew profits and increased market "position", according to DCC. The acquisition of storage distie AGP provides a "strong platform from which to develop a much larger business in the growing computer storage products sector".

Gem Distribution had an "excellent first half", which augurs well for the second half and key Christmas retail season. Gem has won solus UK and Ireland franchise rights for the distribution of Microsoft X-Box hardware, software and ancillary products, which should deliver a handsome contribution to the bottom line in the next financial year.

Distrilogie is IBM's biggest storage distie in Europe, and reports a "strong first half based on continued growth in demand for computer storage products.

Sharptext in Ireland, however, had a difficult first half, with its product lines "particularly impacted by the significant slowdown in the IT market".

Acquisition commitments during the period were E30.3m, slightly over half of which was paid in cash. ®
