Net users in East Yorkshire believe that consumer pressure will help force Kingston Communications to reconsider its decision to cap its new ADSL service.

An online petition has been set up for users to lobby the telco and is due to be handed in to Kingston on Friday 14 September.

Says the petition: "The [ADSL service] is not what anybody expected it to be. After waiting what has seemed like an eternity, KC (Kingston Communications) have messed up big time. Even BT's 'Openworld' service is far superior to it.

"For a service that is advertised to be 'always-on' a 700MB 'cap' could bring this always on service down to only a few hours a day depending on how busy the service was.

"Why should Hull residents be treated differently from the rest of the country?"

No one from Kingston Communications was available for interview by press time.

However, those leading their fight against Kingston should take heart from the activities of Net users in Australia.

Telstra Big Pond's decision to impose a 3GB a month download limit from October has been put on hold while it carries out a review.

Our sources Down Under tell us that consumer power forced the broadband outfit to reconsider to its decision. And there are now real doubts that Big Pond will carry out its threat. ®
