Number unconfirmed, but some survive

Tiny Computer US closed a large number of showrooms this weekend, effectively reducing the business to a mail order operation.

Although the company still lists 36 stores on its website in Washington, Oregon and California states, a number of these, including Alderwood in Washington, have already closed in recent weeks.

Tiny staff confirmed the closures, and Tiny has told remaining staff that a full list would be available shortly. Some evidently remain in business: a call to the San Jose showroom confirmed that it had survived the cull. Calls to Tiny's Tacoma headquarters proved fruitless.

According to staff, Tiny began to retrench in early summer, moving technical support and distribution operations to the Tacoma HQ. Staff were communicating via Hotmail, in the absence of a corporate email system, according to some sources.

Tiny launched as a US operation in spring 2000, opening 48 showrooms on the Pacific West Coast.
