Broadband Canada outperforms broadband US

Canada has double the broadband penetration compared to the US, according to a survey by Kinetic Strategies Inc.
As of June 1 there were 7.6 million residential broadband subscribers in the US and 1.7 million in Canada.
Broadband penetration in Canada is equal to 15 percent - double that in the US.
In total there are 9.3 million residential broadband users in the US and Canada.
However, 70 per cent of them (6.4 million) use cable modems to access broadband services.
DSL serves 2.9 million users.
Kinetic Strategies estimates that almost one million cable broadband subscribers signed up in Q1 2001 - 76 per cent more than the 560,000 people who became DSL subscribers.
Compared to the Q4 2000, growth in cable modem subscriber numbers was flat, while residential DSL additions dropped 5 percent. ®
