The figures come from US recruitment firm Challenger, Gray and Christmas which has calculated that the number of job cuts is already 60 per cent higher than it was for all of 2000. The May numbers may indicate a slowdown in layoffs, but the figures are still higher than for February when 12,828 got canned. ® Related Story
