The LibDems in Wales have been forced to close an anti-Plaid Cymru Web site because of election rules.

The site - www.plaid-cymru.co.uk - took off the Welsh nationalist party's name, and listed four particularly lame reasons as to why people shouldn't vote it.

However, an election campaign is in progress and there are some very strict rules regarding what you can and can't do.

Passing yourself off as one party and then delivering negative messages is one of them. Plaid Cymru complained and the site has been pulled. A Plaid Cymru spokesman described it as "an illegal move".

The site now has the simple message: "Due to high server demand, this page is temporarily unavailable". Check out the source code though and rather foolishly the man behind the site makes himself known. For those without frames, the browser directs you to the homepage of one John Dixon, a Liberal Democrat councillor living in Cardiff. We gave John a call, but he's not at home at the moment.

The top button on John's site is called: "Action". We had a look put could only find stuff about newsletters. No mention of setting up illegal, lame Web sites which slag off other parties. Would you believe it. ®
