Excite@Home, the consumer portal, is considering exit Europe. But Evan Rudowski, of Excite Europe, tells the FT that the company would "rather sell the business for $1 than withdraw from Europe after all the time and money we have invested."
Excite is a second-tier player in Europe. The company turned over 30m Euros in 2000, according to the FT. But that's from 11 countries. And it has no telco/access revenues. We guess it's loss-making if Excite@Home is retiring to the US.
Who'll want it? The FT reckons that Vivendi Universal could be interested - but then Vivendi and Tiscali, the Italian-owned ISP are always interested in buying up operators and Web properties, if the price is right. ®
