Sports content site Sportal is axing 10 per cent of its global workforce today.
Around 25 people are expected to lose their jobs from the London office.
The job cuts follow a round of funding in December, which came under the condition, that the company cut overheads. Sportal has not said how much money it got, but it believes the sum will be enough to let it turn its first profit in Q1 2002 without laying anyone else off.
A spokesman said it was a great shame the company would be losing some 'friends' but stressed the move was "not part of the dotcom collapse nightmare scenario". ®
