Hewlett-Packard is blowing its trumpet about the latest super slimline server aimed at corporates or hefty Web sites.

The LP 1000R has two processors wedged into an 1.75in space, enabling more stacking for less storage room. The model, already used by Yahoo! in Japan and DreamWorks SKG in the US, follows skinny server offerings from rivals Compaq - its Photon was introduced in June - and IBM.

HP's LP 1000R costs $3799, although the US vendor says it will offer its usual utility pricing, like with its Superdome monster, to let customers pay for only the CPUs they use.

HP plans to introduce a higher end model into the range in early spring, according to CNET. The LP2000R will also have two processors, but will be able to take more hark disks and expansion slots. ®
