eBay has issued a warning about fake emails that appear to come from the company and ask for members' personal details.

Users of the online auction site have received emails telling there is a problem with their registration details, and asking them to click on a link to update them. The link goes to what appears to be the eBay home page, but which has a different URL, according to a warning issued on Ebay's announcement board yesterday.

The emails seem to be coming from management@ebay.com, which the online auction site says is not a valid eBay email address.

In related news, eBay is cracking down on offline deals between subscribers. The dotcom today threatened to first warn, then suspend any members found conducting sales offline with people they have met through the site.

This way of doing business lets members dodge eBay's fees for online auctions.
