Celeron 800 tips up in Japan

Akiba first again

Japan's Akiba Hotline is advertising the new 800MHz Celeron, the first Celery to sport a 100MHz front side bus. The part isn't scheduled for launch until January, but Akiba has a tradition of being the first store on the block with new processors.

Intel famously doesn't comment on unannounced products, but OC Workbench has a picture of Intel's new baby where the labelling on the chip can clearly be read.

The CPU has 'Celeron TM MALAY 800/128/100/1.7v Q047A834-0602 SL4TF' emblazoned on it, which translates as an 800MHz clock speed, 128K L2 cache, 100MHz FSB, running at 1.7 volts.

Akiba is advertising the part at ¥24800 ($220). The new CPU also has six capacitors compared with the five of lesser Celerons. ®
