Former graphics behemoth S3 is taking a sabbatical from the high end graphics arena and concentrating on the integrated graphics market instead.

"We'll be resting on the discrete desktop graphics market for at least nine months," says corporate marketing veep Paul Ayscough. "But in 12 to 18 months we'll be back with something very cool."

Ayscough described S3's Savage2000 accelerator in less than glowing terms, but added: "I'd be very upset if you quoted me as saying it was a disaster."
