Maxtor's 60GB drive ships in volume

Steps to Take Before Choosing a Business Continuity Partner

Maxtor's DiamondMax Plus 60 hard-drive is now shipping in volume worldwide. Samples of the new drive are with Maxtor's OEM partners and testing is underway.

The Plus 60 runs at 7200 rpm and has 20GB per platter capacity. Maxtor says it is the only company shipping a 60GB hard-drive on three disks at the moment.

IDC says that Maxtor's business looks good for the foreseeable, as 7200 rpm drive become more pervasive. In particular Maxtor says that demand for ATA products has risen as people have started to use faster processors and have started to use the drives for enterprise storage.

The drive is expected to retail at $299.95. ®
