IBM clinches largest Linux system sale

Japanese retail chain buys 15,000 seats

A Japanese convenience store chain is installing 15,000 IBM eServer xSeries boxes running Linux into its outlets - this will give it the largest commercial Linux system in the world.

The 7,500 store Lawson chain will have two IBM machines at each of its shops allowing customers to download music, movies and other Web multimedia. ®
