Bridging the IT gap between rising business demands and ageing tools

PC sales in Germany's PC Spezialist stores show that AMD processors are gaining popularity at the expense of Chipzilla's Pentiums.

The retailer's quarterly figures for its Bielefeld store show a growth in sales of over 50 per cent on the same period last year, with the proportion of PCs sold with AMD processors making up the majority - 65.1 per cent - of those sold. Intel equipped machines accounted for 34.9 per cent of sales up to October 12 this year. In the same period last year the store reported Intel based machines accounting for 61 per cent of units sold.

The company said that the situation was reflected throughout its 120 outlets.

A survey conducted by German tech-mag, CHIP, reported that 81 per cent of respondents expressed a preference for AMD's processors over Intel's. A mere 14 per cent said they would part with cash in exchange for one of Chipzilla's processors. ®
