Free research: Application platforms, the state of play
As we predicted last week here (http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/3/13382.html), three new flavours of Intel mobile processors duly arrived today.
Both the Pentium IIIs use SpeedStep and run at 1.65V in maximum performance mode and 1.35V and a slower clock speed in battery-optimised mode.
The only surprise was the pricing: $722 for the 850/700MHz PIII and $508 for its 800/650MHz sibling - considerably more expensive than expected.
However, Old Mother Chipton's crystal ball was spot on with the new king of the hill 700MHz mobile Celeron - $181 is within a couple of bucks of her estimate. ®
