Intel unleashes 850Mhz mobile Pentium III

A tad more expensive than expected

As we predicted last week here, three new flavours of Intel mobile processors duly arrived today.

Both the Pentium IIIs use SpeedStep and run at 1.65V in maximum performance mode and 1.35V and a slower clock speed in battery-optimised mode.

The only surprise was the pricing: $722 for the 850/700MHz PIII and $508 for its 800/650MHz sibling - considerably more expensive than expected.

However, Old Mother Chipton's crystal ball was spot on with the new king of the hill 700MHz mobile Celeron - $181 is within a couple of bucks of her estimate. ®
