Verizon slashes DSL tariffs
Cheap high-speed Web access in UK seems even further away

Verizon Communications has slashed 20 per cent off selected DSL high-speed Web tariffs.
The company, product of the merger between Bell Atlantic and GTE, made the changes to bring pricing into line with pricing in the Northeast and
Mid-Atlantic region - which saw price cuts in July.
Tariffs were cut to $39.95 from $49.95 on September 1 for its residential DSL service - Verizon Online's Bronze Plus - in 14 states in the Midwest, and West. The company also said it would give free modems, worth $99, to all new customers nationwide who sign up for a one-year contract.
In addition, it announced price reductions for its small to medium business DSL services.
In the Midwest, Southeast and Western states, the entry-level price for Bronze Plus DSL service went down 20 percent from $91.50 to $69.95. In the
Mid-Atlantic and Northeast region, Personal DSL Plus was reduced from $64.95 to $49.95. ®
