Here are the ten most wanted men in the Midlands

West Midlands Police force names and shames online

The West Midlands Police force has decided to post pictures and details of its ten most wanted men on its Web site. As part of Operation Streets Safe, it has listed its Top Ten of wanted robbery suspects whose crimes range from armed robbery to assault.

As the site says: "Some offences date back two or three years, but police are determined to bring the offenders to justice." The public is advised not to approach of those featured but instead to ring a crime number and report a sighting. You can remain anonymous, but information leading to an arrest could earn you a handsome £500.

The site features a picture and details of the offenders and includes some interesting characters such as Vincent Palmer, 34, who escaped a 13-year jail sentence for armed robbery by busting out of Birmingham County Court during his trial. He apparently frequents Birmingham, Cyprus, Turkey, Bombay and Orlando.

Cedric Brown looks like a friendly fellow but four aliases and a carjacking at the end of a sawn-off shotgun shows his nastier side. He is less of an international traveller, restricting his travels to Edgbaston and Handsworth. And so on and so forth.

The force's Chief Constable said that the posting of these men's details was not a "flash in a pan" and he expected to expand the campaign further over time. You can find the ten most wanted here. ®

Update: A reader has kindly sent us a link to Bangkok's version - which varies from a backpacker that allegedly stole some travellers' cheques to a man who staged an armed robbery and rape in the Burmese Embassy. Seems as though they take backpackers very seriously in Bangkok. Have a look here.
