A British man was sent to prison for a year and a day after he flew to Los Angeles to meet a 13-year-old boy he met in an Internet chat room.

Following his arrest earlier this year George Prosoparis discovered that the boy he had been talking to, and had arranged to meet, was actually a female FBI agent working undercover.

The Times reports that as well as his year-and-a-day prison term, 35-year-old Prosoparis was ordered to serve three years probation, meaning that he must register as a sex offender with LA authorities. He was also banned from going online, contacting anyone under the age of 18 or loitering near any areas frequented by children.

As he was being sentenced, the man told the judge that he was sorry that "this has taken place". He met the FBI agent in a chat room called 'gaydads4sons'. ®
