IBM power supplies are really hot stuff

320,000 AC Adapters due for recall

IBM is recalling AC Adapters for the ThinkPad 310, ThinkPad i Series and the WorkPad z50 due to overheating problems.

"Some of these adapters have exhibited signs of overheating and may pose a fire hazard," says the company.

An estimated 320,000 AC Adapters are due for recall around the world, 220,000 of them in the US. Worried ThinkPad owners should check here to see if they are at risk of a conflagration.

IBM is obviously concerned that its forthcoming Itanium servers should not suffer the same fiery fate - an IBM mole reports that the company's prototype four way Merced boxes have 'huge' heatsinks and no fewer than seven fans.

And this, remember, is for 600Mhz Itanics - lord knows how many fans they'll need when the chip finally manages to run at its advertised launch speed of 800MHz. ®
