So what about CNET, the massively complacent American cable TV to Web property group, which is supposed to ignite the UK any day now. Originally, CNET was supposed to launch in the UK in August, but then delayed until November, because of the difficulty in finding suitably qualified. journalists, according to an article in The Industry Standard by the estimable Polly Sprenger. Cash Register now hears CNET won't launch here until the New Year. The lack of talent reason for delays is complete garbage of course. In the UK, there are well over 1,000 journalists making a good living out of IT, around 200 of which who specialise in news. London has the world's biggest concentration of journalists (well over 30,000) in Europe, and possibly the world -- there is a huge pool of copy-editing, art-editing and web design layout/ talent. And CNET can't find a news team? Maybe it should up its pay rates. ®
