StorageTek, Sun team up

It's debatable or not whether storage is dull (it is dull, ed), but there's a never ending round of activity these days. And it is lucrative. The latest adjustment in the market has arrived after StorageTek, which fell out with Big Blue just the other day, forged a new relationship with Sun. According to the Sun announcement, it and StorageTek will drive "open standards" in the marketplace. All storage companies, especially Hewlett Packard, which fell out publicly with EMC earlier this year, claim openness. EMC itself, which bought DG the other day, also claims this. And Compaq says it is open too... The agreement lasts for a number of years and Sun and StorageTek will create joint technologies to be integrated into storage area networks (SANs). Products created by the alliance will appear next year. The amount of money involved was not disclosed. See, we said it was debatable whether storage is dull.
